The Power of Community is Positive Change

Hands Across the Sand, Fish Hoek, South Africa

On Saturday 26 June2010 we met on Fish Hoek Beach between 11 and 12 to hold hands across the sand which was an international event - Joining Hands across the Sand.

We registered our event very late but as my family and I were going to do this any how, we invited everyone we knew knowing if they couldn't make it, at least they would be aware of it and put intentions out there where ever they might be.

Hands Across the Sand is a movement made of people of all walks of life and crosses political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife, and fishing industry. Let us share our knowledge, energies and passion for protecting all of the above from the devastating effects of oil drilling.

The weather was very challenging, gail force winds and only 4 people on the beach.

Our spirits were high and we proceeded. The kids stayed in the car with refreshments whilst Kevin and I spoke to those few individuals who braved the elements. We also spoke to some of the guests at the restaurant whilst having a brunch.

In the end we had 22 participants, energized by the fresh strong air, holding hands in the sand with a common goal. We faced the ocean and put our intentions out there to protect our oceans with all its life in it. This was reinforced all over the world on this day by many participants. We hope that with this world wide gathering, polititions will shift and put pressure on oil companies not to drill off shore and to promote Clean Energy.

We would like to thank Allan Roy and his family for assisting in taking the picture, as well as all the participants who made this on such sort notice.

Each time we talk to someone or have an event like this, we plant a seed no matter what their consciousness is at that time.

There were 4 events registered in South Africa; 2 in Blouberg Strand and 1 in Camps Bay.
