This year Creating Change has launched a The Conscious Cooking at Marine Primary in Ocean View.

 

The Conscious Cook is a cooking course teaching life skills and educates children on what it means to eat ethically and the impact their food choices have on personal health, our communities, animals and environment.

 

By working in groups together preparing a wholesome and affordable meal, it educates children on the power of renewable and efficient cooking methods.

 

It also teaches them that environmentally mean earth-friendly and how ‘green’ products contribute in helping to conserve resources.

 

They learn about good nutrition, ethical and eco tips and the most common chemicals and preservatives found in food that contributes to bad concentration and behavior, allergies and links to other disease are pointed out.

 

It runs every Wednesday afternoon to Grade 7’s and Liesel James who developed and facilitates this workshop works with Mrs Locket Grade 7 teacher and deputy Principal of Marine Primary who coordinates the children.

 

            

The response to this class has been extremely positive. Children love the fact that we all work together around a table in smaller groups, as the average class at Marine Primary is 38 kids per class and the largest 48 learners.

 

The children are very receptive and we have received feedback that they would like to learn more about healthy eating and environmental education.

We would like to thank Ackerman Foundation, Spur Steak Ranches and Johnsson for their contribution in making this workshop possible in 2012 to 145 learners grade 7 learners at Marine Primary School, Ocean View.

Creating Change has collaborated with e-classroom and is now offering this workshop to all schools in the Western Cape and envisage to launch into other provinces by 2013.
