The Power of Community is Positive Change

On Friday 20 January 3 boys from Capri enlightened 30 preschool children in Ocean View.

Marine Primary, started a grade R class this year and waiting in hope for the Department of Education to provide them with some toys and classroom equipment. Their classroom existed of only a carpet to sit on, a few tables, limited stationary, teaching tools and one box of toys.  This has been the experience for these children who for some of them have just started school for the first time.

Thanks to Llewellyn, Emerthys and Gwyllion Stead these poor children are having a different experience now. They have an opportunity to play creatively, peacefully and happily which is a right for all children.

The Stead boys who have lost their mother recently in a tragic accident gathered all their toys that they have outgrown and wished to donate these toys to a disadvantage community and children who have experienced hardship.

Their aunts  Grace  and Joe Stead contacted Liesel from Creating Change who has been working with children in Ocean View for the past 3 years to find a suitable school or crèche. Liesel collected a bakkie full of toys including wooden building blocks, animals, ships, trains, puzzles and more.  There is still another load of goods including a bicycle roller blades and scooter for older children which she will hand out to kids on her Youth Development and Sustainability Programme.

She dropped by the classroom15 minutes before the kids were going home and off loaded boxes full of toys.

“It was such a rewarding experience. The children were extremely excited whilst unpacking each box and didn’t want to go home for the weekend! I bet no parents had issues getting their kids to school on Monday.”

“Children hugged me with such big smiles and I would like to thank each one of these Stead boys on behalf of all the children and teacher for making such a difference to their experience at school. You have created positive change!” An act of kindness can bring such joy and healing for those who are giving and also those on the receiving end.

Liesel visited the school on the following Wednesday and Mrs Levendall said that the children were extremely happy and learning through play about all the different animals. She said that they are looking after each toy with such care and that is a big sign of appreciation.

If anyone else would like to donate toys, stationary, furniture, jungle gyms, kitchen and gardening equipment to schools, you can get hold of Liesel on info@creatingchange.org.za  You can also visit www.creatingchange.org.za
