Creating Change

The Power of Community is Positive Change

Creating Change Conscious Lifestyle Program launch at Desmond Tutu HIV Youth Centre.

The new ways to select, prepare and cook food, to protect the earth, improve our health, and eat deliciously!

Creating Change, a Public Benefit Organisation has had the privilege with the assistance of Spur Foundation and GCX Africa to launch the Conscious Life Style Program to 2 Youth Groups at the Desmond Tutu HIV Youth Centre in Masiphumulele and another 2 Youth Groups at Marine and Kleinberg Primary Schools in Ocean View.

Both Spur and GCX have enjoyed a successful relationship over the years with Creating Change through joint establishments for food gardens and tree planting events in under-served areas.

The program considers socio-economic and environmental issues as well as affordability, nutrition, health, hygiene, adaptation and sustainability.  It also focuses on re-introducing culture and heritage to cooking as well as offering new choices in a fun and engaging way.

The first program runs over a 12-month period. Champion Eco-Warriors will have the opportunity to qualify for the following 2 years, with the final year incorporating an entrepreneurs training program.

Another objective of Creating Change is effective cross cultural integration and the programs at the Desmond Tutu Youth Centre has a mixed group of cultures and backgrounds teaching youths from all races to work together.

The best this month however was meeting Dr Jane Goodall with Marine Primary Eco-Warriors earlier this month. Everyone present was in awe of her gentle humble but assertive message of looking after our planet and all living things, but also sharing her life story saying that anything, any dream is possible as long as you work hard at it.  A seed planted in the minds of all the youths present.

Creating Change has been in collaboration with Roots & Shoots South Africa Programs since 2012, which was founded by Dr Jane Goodall. Marine Primary Eco Warriors are the beneficiaries of the Role Model Program.

“We love our work, purpose and meeting such amazing world leaders on our journey. We must join together, collaborate and work hard with positive minds, it does bring positive outcomes”, says Liesel James, Founder of Creating Change.
