Creating Change

The Power of Community is Positive Change

27 November 2014

Creating Change – an organisation focused on teaching good nutrition through natural gardening and cooking to school children, rewarded 7 Change Agents from Ocean View Secondary School their own back yard salad and herb garden this week.

These kids have completed the one year Conscious Lifestyle proram through Creating Change and helped implememt the first youth garden at the Desmond Tutu Youth Centre earlier this year. This is where they learnt about how to grow food naturally. Unfortunately the centre is in Masiphumulele and the kids don’t have daily access to this lush garden due to transport and therefor Liesel James founder of Creating Change rewarded the kids who had space at home with their own garden for their diligence, commitment and good behaviour through out the year.

The kids had great fun with Msukizi Zele director of Creating Change redesigning and transforming cluttered backyards into a small sacred space. Some gardens straight into the ground and some into containers.  We hope these kids will inspire their families and neighbors to start small gardens and even expand their existing ones.

Earlier this year, Creating Change implemented a Youth Garden outside council flats in Ocean View where Change Agents from Kleinberg Primary School reside and benefit from. There is a link to the short movie from the video page.

On 10 December all the Change Agents from the different schools Marine Primary, Kleinberg Primary and Ocean View Secondary will graduate for completing this one-year extramural program.

Thanks to Spur Foundation for supporting Creating Change to reach these children in Ocean View and empowering their hungry minds.
