Creating Change

The Power of Community is Positive Change

Change Agents foraging at Cape Good Hope Nursery

One of the objectives of Creating Change is to link children back to their heritage through indigenous edible plants usage for culinary and medicinal use.

Recently we took the Change Agents from the 4 different schools, Kleinberg Primary, Marine Primary, Ocean View Seconder and Ukanyo Primary  to meet Roushanna Grey from Cape Good Hope Nursery who took them on a foraging walk on the mountain and nursery sharing knowledge and tasting different fynbos.

She also took them all back to the nursery where she taught the agents how easy it is to make cheese with flavoring from the indigenous herb salvia. This was served with a homemade muffin and greens and flowers from the garden.

Project leader Liesel James, says: We were amazed by the knowledge of the kids and learnt a few things of what they use some of these medicinal plants for as many of them are descendants of the khoisan or first people of this valley and have an uncle or granny still harvesting from the mountains.

We thoroughly enjoyed this outing, satisfying all the senses and highly recommend the workshops offered by Roushanna Grey to connect us back to our roots.
