The Power of Community is Positive Change
Fish Hoek Clean up Saturday 13 June
Little Green Fingers and Fish Hoek Nippers had a fantastic turnout of 66 children even though it was raining and a long weekend. It is great to know that there are so many Eco Warriors out there. Golden River Spur Manager Sean handed out T-shirts with both Eco Warrior and LGF logos on it.
These nature warriors put their t-shirts on, grabbed bags and headed for the beach, dunes and streets in the stormy weather.
The feedback from the public was very positive. Many people stopped and thanked the children and their parents.
We collected so much rubbish from especially the dunes. The amount of cigarette buds around the children's park was disgusting. We suggest all children parks becoming smoke free!!
The clean up followed by a puppet show presented by Pierrot and Justin who were very creative in making new puppets when the real ones didn't pitch up for the event. The show was all about reuse, recycle and reduce. The children were very clued up and this just reinforced what they are going to advocate out there.
This was followed by lunch from the local steak house Golden River Spur and we would like to thank them all for their great contribution. We also had the Spur's sustainability manager and assistant, Joe and Dominique cheering us along.
Spur has given us their full support in all our clean-up events thus far!
Waste Control our local recycle collection organisation has sponsored bags for each event.
It was great working with Janeen from the Fish Hoek Nippers and I welcome any club in other areas that would like us to organise a clean up in their area.
We always have fun!
